GIS Data Catalog
Below is a list of data available for viewing on the USGS Coastal and Marine Geology Program's U.S. Pacific West Coast Internet Map Server. Data have been compiled from a variety of sources and most of the data are currently available on-line for user access and downloads. Though some images have been converted to geographic for compilation within the Internet Map Server (IMS), the published images may be available in a projected coordinate system. The specific projection and datum information of the published image is noted in the data layer description. | Los Angeles, California Margin
(preview) - a
composite 16 m mosaic of the three Los Angeles Margin multibeam surveys
(Santa Monica Bay, Newport Beach Shelf and Slope Region, and Long Beach
Shelf). The
acoustic backscatter data from the three surveys are published and
available as separate files. Each survey used a different multibeam system
that operated at a different frequency. This results in an inconsistent
acoustic backscatter intensity between surveys due to depth of acoustic
penetration, resolution, etc. The imagery has been combined and is
available here as a matter of convenience for the user. Type:

It contains only those points that fall within the map view and those points which have been classified according to the Shephard classification scheme. The USGS East Coast sediment texture database released in 2005 contains the location, description and texture of approximately 23,000 samples taken by numerous marine sampling programs and processed by the USGS, Woods Hole Science Center.
