Description

New publication U.S. Geological Survey East-Coast Sediment Analysis: Procedures, Database, and GIS Data; 2005, Edited By: L.J. Poppe, S.J. Williams, and V.F. Paskevich; U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2005-1001, 1 DVD-ROM.
This publication supersedes U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 00-358.
This DVD-ROM publication releases a collection of over 23,000 sediment samples produced by the U.S. Geological Survey, Coastal and Marine Geology Program projects based in Woods Hole, MA through 2004. The publication also describes the field methods used to collect marine sediment samples and the laboratory methods used to determine and characterize the grain-size distributions.

Surficial sediment data from the Gulf of Maine, Georges Bank, and vicinity; a GIS compilation, 2003, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 03-001

This report contains a compilation of available textural data and lithologic descriptions generated on surficial sediment samples from off the northeastern coast of the United States. Over 49,000 samples containing sediment grain size and lithology have been compiled as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Benthic Habitats and Marine Aggregate Resources and Processes Projects. These data will be used to update the existent maps on surficial sediment distribution available for the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank regions.

Coastal Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise: A Preliminary Database for the U.S. Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico Coasts, 2001, U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-68

This Digital Data Series CD-ROM contains a preliminary report of the National Assessment of Coastal Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise for the conterminous United States. In addition, the data used in these reports are included in GIS compatible format.

Sea-floor Photography from the Continental Margin Program: A Pictorial Survey of Benthic Character and Habitats Along the U. S. East Coast, 2001, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 01-154

This report contains 466 historical bottom photographs collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's Continental Margin Program. As part of this program approximately 3800 stations were organized on an 18-km grid that extended from the Canadian border to the southern tip of Florida. Bottom photography was conducted at many of these stations in conjunction with sediment sampling for grain size, mineralogy, geochemistry, and biology. The purpose of this report is to release digital versions of these bottom photographs in a gallery that can be visualized geographically.

USGS East-Coast Sediment Analysis: Procedures, Database, and Georeferenced Displays, 2000, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 00-358

CHAPTER 3; Visualizing Sediment Data Layers Using Geographic Mapping Tools

This Open-File CD-ROM contains a procedures section that describes field methods used to collect marine sediment samples and laboratory methods used to determine and characterize the grain-size distribution. This CD-ROM also contains a data release of over 19,000 surficial samples collected and or processed by the USGS Coastal and Marine Geology Program, Woods Hole Science Center.

This data layer is available in an ArcView shapefile format along with it's metadata from this server. The data has been stored in a zip archive for convenience.

U. S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 99-439 - A marine GIS library for Massachusetts Bay : focusing on disposal sites, contaminated sediments, and sea floor mapping

This CD-ROM contains information in a Geographic Information System (GIS) format for the coastal region offshore of Boston, Massachusetts. This collection of data layers were a beginning effort to develop a library of information in GIS format that can be referenced and shared by those working in, and seeking to understand, the Massachusetts Bay region. The CD-ROM was assembled at a workshop attended by an ad-hoc group representing federal and state government, industry and academia. This CD-ROM principally contains data on waste disposal sites and characteristics of the sea floor.

U. S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 98-801 - Construction of digital bathymetry for the Gulf of Maine

This online publication documents the procedures used to construct 15 and 30 arc second resolution bathymetric grids for the Gulf of Maine. The grids themselves, digital bathymetric contour lines and shaded-relief maps were generated and are available in a variety of formats for download.
